When you have hardwood cabinets installed in your home, take the time to sit back, look, and enjoy the true beauty of this upgrade. You may think that you do not have to worry about cleaning and caring for your new cupboards for a while, but this is not true. Ensuring that everything continues to look as good as new starts with proper care from the very beginning.

When you are ready to go, you will need to use a heavy gauge paper that can really level off the wood surface. When that pass has been completed, you will need to smooth everything out with a lighter gauge paper. The fine quality will get rid of all of the little digs and should give you a perfectly smooth surface. Then you have to clean the mess up. You can usually get a lot of it with shop vac and then pass over everything with a tack rag to get all of the fine particles. Do not move onto the next step until you are sure that you have cleaned everything up entirely.

Before you do a thing with your new cabinets, read the manufacturers' maintenance instructions. The various finishes available for hardwood require different cleaners and care options. Find out what is recommended for yours.

I personally like using at least five different fabrics to get a nice diagonal pattern going, but you can use as little as two or as many as 50. (these do make great scrap quilts to clean up the stash) The quilt above has seven different prints and just for fun I threw in a textured corduroy. For the backing you can pick anything to mixed up squares or the same fabric. I am pretty conservative and usually go with the same backing through out the quilt.

Now it is time to start putting it all together. handmade doll I do is line up the blocks in the order I want and start making a sandwich with all the fabrics I plan on using.

Rag Quilt tip: After removing from the dryer if you are using dark or light fabrics you may see lint all over the quilt. My magic cure is duck tape. I take pieces of duck tape and use it as a lint remover....works like magic!
